Circuit Theory “Amnesia”
Overall – 3 out of 4 stars
Musicianship – 3 out of 4 stars
Songwriting – 3 out of 4 stars
Originality – 1 out of 4 stars
Circuit Theory is a band whose biggest strength may well be their biggest weakness. Let’s start with the good: Amnesia is a pulse-pounding melodic metal powerhouse. Coz Baldwin has an impressive vocal range and song style. Tom Gleason is a shredding guitar technician. Rick Bruneau (Drums) and Sean Mathes (Bass) are the perfect compliment to the sounds that the other two create.
There really is nothing wrong with this record… except that it sounds so stunningly familiar to Tool circa Undertow. The similarities are uncanny. Pop both albums in back to back and you might not notice the CD change in between. Coz’s range and voice is so similar to Maynard’s that they may as well be siblings. Gleason’s guitar work is so similar to Adam Jones’ that it’s stifling. Both bands also do songs about similar subject matter, making it even more confusing.
At least Circuit Theory sounds like a groundbreaking band. That’s much better than going with a sound that’s been done to death. And the band has enough differences to the point that any diehard Tool fan would appreciate their music rather than scream bloody murder.

“Red Fades to Black” Radio
“Going for quality over quantity on their new album “Amnesia”, Circuit Theory delivers six solid professionally recorded tracks of impressive and powerful music that bring rock and metal together in a way that draws respect from metal fans, while still remaining accessible to the casual music fan.
Aside from their music being reminiscent of the innovative band Tool, Circuit Theory can be admired for it’s unique artistry, while offering lyrics that are easily relatable. Amnesia will help you forget most of the watered down music out there today and give listeners hope that good music is still alive and well.”
